POLOKWANE – The annual Provincial Wellness Day, spearheaded by the Limpopo Provincial Government, was successfully held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at the iconic Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
The event saw a strong turnout from the Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (LDARD) and other provincial employees, reaffirming the government's investment in its workforce.
A highlight of the day was the address by the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Sport, Arts and Culture, Honourable Funani Jerry Maseko.
MEC Maseko emphasized that employee wellness is not solely a workplace concern but a holistic commitment that must extend into personal life.
"We urge our public servants to prioritize their mental health by engaging in activities, sport, and culture out of office space. A rested mind, enriched by life outside of work, is the sharpest tool for serving the public," MEC Maseko stated.
His comments underscored the importance of cultural and recreational engagement in managing stress and preventing burnout, aligning with his department’s mission to promote active and creative citizenry.
The Wellness Day achieved its objective by offering activities aimed at addressing the diverse health needs of the provincial workforce as follows:
- Physical Wellness: Employees engaged in various fitness activities and challenges.
- Comprehensive Health Checks: Vital health screenings for blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol were conducted.
- Mental and Emotional Support: Workshops and resources focused on stress management and mental resilience were key features, directly supporting the message delivered by MEC Maseko.
The successful conclusion of the 2025 Provincial Wellness Day reinforces the Limpopo Provincial Government’s commitment to building a capable, resilient, and healthy public service.
