Oval table talk with traditional leaders to relax stringent conditions to land access especially to agriculture graduates who will be assisted through farmer support programme

The MEC for Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (LDARD), Ms. Nakedi Kekana, has made a decisive commitment to strengthen agricultural relations with the Limpopo House of Traditional Leaders.

Hosi Pheni Ngove, leading the House, clearly articulated the need for solidarity in agriculture between traditional leadership and government. He underscored the critical role that traditional leaders play in tackling agricultural challenges within their communities, asserting the necessity for ongoing engagement and collaboration on essential issues.

Traditional leaders are not just custodians of cultural heritage, but essential agents of agricultural development. Through close collaboration with the government, traditional leaders can enhance agricultural practices and significantly improve the livelihoods of their communities, driving a more sustainable and resilient agricultural sector in Limpopo.

Furthermore, the House has unequivocally agreed to MEC Kekana’s request: agriculture graduates will be given priority access to land for their farming initiatives. This step aligns perfectly with existing farmer support programmes, addressing the significant challenges that youth face in accessing land. The MEC firmly recognises this commitment from the House as a progressive for aspiring farmers.
