Modimolle-Mookgophong – The Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (LDARD) successfully held its crucial Veterinary Services Congress and Provincial Abattoir Rating Scheme (PARS) Awards at the picturesque Fumani Game Lodge in the Waterberg District from October 27–31, 2025.
This convergence served as a key event for the LDARD's veterinary services division, bringing together State Veterinarians and a range of vital stakeholders. The primary focus was to discuss forward-looking strategies, facilitate knowledge sharing, and plan for the future of animal health and rural development across the Limpopo Province.
The proceedings gained significant momentum with the keynote address delivered by LDARD Acting MEC Dieketseng Mashego, highlighting the Department's commitment to robust animal health practices and stringent food safety measures.
A major component of the week was the presentation of the Provincial Abattoir Rating Scheme (PARS) Awards. Now in its seventh year, the PARS initiative has proven instrumental in driving continuous improvement and strengthening Hygiene Management Systems across abattoirs in the province.
The rating scheme serves a dual purpose by ensuring adherence to critical meat safety standards and fostering a climate of fair competition among abattoirs of all sizes.
By formally recognising compliance, the initiative supports law enforcement, reinforces the province’s commitment to public health, and ultimately guarantees food safety for Limpopo's consumers. The awards ceremony underscored the hard work and dedication of abattoir operators and the veterinary teams that ensure regulatory standards are met.
The successful hosting of the Congress and Awards at the Fumani Lodge in Modimolle-Mookgophong municipality concluded a week of intense strategic planning and celebrated achievement, setting a positive agenda for the Department's work in the coming year
