Waterberg District officials at the forefront of sharing experience with farmers
Production of poultry meat can be challenging at times if certain measures cannot be applied correctly…
Several beginners and those already in the field attended a broiler information day held at Witpoort Agricultural Office, Lephalale in Waterberg District lately.
The golden rule was to start small whenever rearing a broiler, then one shall grow with experience.
Knowing the cost of production from day-old to six weeks of age / slaughter, feed, transport, vaccines and disinfecting material, heating, and bedding material as well as housing material (building, cleaning and salaries) is crucial for poultry production.
The whole of these costs exercise need to be recorded in a book, which is called financial records. This will help track the growth stage of the chicken by using the scale, how much feeds consumed, and the money being made through chicken sales.
Keeping records can also assist in determining some causes of poor performance and less growth sometimes due to diseases, shortage of feed and cold winds that will ultimately need an early intervention. Drawing up a record keeping can assist in differentiating between an income and expenditure.
