Portfolio Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development for Provincial Legislature, LDARD and Hans Merensky Agric Academy officials respectively at Hans Merensky Agric Academy soon after the Committee undertaken an oversight

The Portfolio Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development from Limpopo Provincial Legislature led by Honourable Wasley Maringa, sitting on behalf of Honourable Bela Kupa conducted an oversight visit at Hans Merensky Agric Academy, Tzaneen in Mopani District, on 04 June 2025.

The oversight visit sought to physically verify the infrastructure that the Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (LDARD) has supported the Academy with. The Academy, which occupies a 227 hectare (ha) of land, received a 1100 carrying capacity of chicken house, from the department, which the Deputy Principal Nadia Last, vowed to insert 500 points of lays around August.

Ms Last, explained that the Academy has Macadamia Nursery where they grow and sell them to advance some of the activities in the school. She made assertion that the Academy has solid partnerships with companies around such as ZZ2, BEKMAR, and Citrus Academy, that also support the school in various ways including skills transfer, where learners receive AgriSETA accredited training in various short courses. 

Honourable Wesley Maringa appealed to the principal not to shy away from knocking on the doors of the government departments for further support, saying because, “we strive to address the food security in the long run”.

The Committee conducts regular oversight visit to ensure that policies are implemented and responsive to the needs of local communities, promoting sustainable agricultural development for food security and economic growth.
