The Mopani District Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (LDARD) recently joined hands with various government institutions, including South African Police Service (SAPS), South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), and the Department of Health, for a vibrant career exhibition held at Giyani Comprehensive School under Greater Giyani Local Municipality.
The event was designed to introduce primary school learners to different career options through interactive exhibitions. By showcasing professions in sectors such as agriculture, policing, and healthcare, the exhibition aimed to spark curiosity and inspire young learners on their journey towards their futures.
Agricultural advisors Rebecca Nghatsane and Khathutshelo Matodzi from Mopani North Agro-Ecological Zone led presentations highlighting career pathways in farming, food production, environmental science, agricultural technology, and veterinary studies.
They provided learners with hands-on demonstrations and practical insights into how agriculture plays a vital role in food security, sustainability, and innovation.
A key highlight of the event was the motivational address by Dr. Tshembani Makhubela, a proud former learner of Giyani Comprehensive School and now a medical doctor.
In his speech, Dr. Makhubela encouraged students to believe in their dreams, emphasizing that discipline, dedication, and commitment are the keys to success. He also expressed gratitude to some of his former teachers still serving at the school for their role in shaping his career and that it is possible for current learners to achieve what he became today in the community of Giyani where he comes from and within the medical sector.
The career exhibition was not just about promoting specific professions, but about broadening horizons. Learners were encouraged to explore a range of possibilities and discover what truly excites them.
