LDARD top management led by MEC Kekana defuse tensions and strengthen relations with forums and stakeholders.

The Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (LDARD) MEC Nakedi Kekana has successfully led an engagement to resolve disputes affecting Tompi Seleka College of Agriculture and nearby villages.

For months, surrounding communities had raised concerns about the college’s operations and the hiring of labourers by contractors. The facilitated dialogue brought together forums and stakeholders to defuse tensions, strengthen relations, and prevent disruptions that could negatively impact teaching and learning at the college.

The meeting, held at the Matlala Traditional Council in Ga-Rakgwadi village, underscored the importance of synergy between provincial government, local government, and traditional leadership in addressing community challenges.  During the engagement, the MEC responded point by point to the concerns raised by communities and demanded that officials work hand in glove with traditional leaders and the local municipality to ensure maximum impact in addressing the issues.

Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr Given Moimana, assured the gathering that a clear programme of action on communication between government and the local community will be implemented to prevent future tensions arising from misunderstandings.

Kgoshi Rakgwadi appreciated the MEC’s intervention and applauded her leadership in resolving tensions in the area.  LDARD Head of Department, Ms Mpho Mashamba, also attended the meeting with senior staff members, reaffirming the department’s commitment to partnership-driven solutions.
