MEC responsible for Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (LDARD) Thabo Mokone has handed over agricultural inputs to Hans Merensky Agricultural School, Tzaneen in Mopani District, on 06 February 2024.
Mokone has handed out 93 bags of pig growers to the value of R44 000 and further topped it with R175 000 to assist in the re-construction of the chicken layers. These tokens of appreciation meant to congratulate the educators for their sterling performances for the outstanding achievement of 99% pass rate on their matric 2023.
In his word of encouragement, MEC said the school should continue to be the best Agricultural School in Limpopo as is also the fountain and the centre of excellence in Mopani West. “The school must go an extra mile to ensure that agricultural science becomes the core subject in the school”, remarked the MEC. This was after Phillipine Modika, a District Director of Education in Mopani said they have succeeded in ensuring that the agriculture in school is taken with mathematics because it is agricultural science.

The Hans Merensky Agricultural Academy has Macadamia Nursery where they grow and sell them to advance some of the activities in the school. Further development in the school is supported by the ZZ2, BEKMAR and Citrus Academy, said Nadia Last.
Maganus Steyn, the school principal who was happy with the MEC Mokone’s visit and generosity, said that one of his wishes is to build a partnership through the Department of Education (DE) and LDARD to improve the academy.
MEC’s visit was further landed at Letaba TVET College, Tzaneen to extend his appreciation for the school for absorbing learners who study agricultural management. Acting Head of the Department, Jethro Nowata thanked the college with the change it makes and brings to the agricultural field.
