MEC Thabo Mokone had extended his community outreach programme in celebration of his birthday with learners from Sebone Primary School in Mokgolobotho village outside Tzaneen town.
MEC had demonstrated his generosity by sharing a birthday cake with learners.
The school was one of the beneficiaries of Food Security Production Inputs. The package comprises of wheelbarrows, wire fence, garden tools and seeds, which are meant for strengthening the school garden. The move was to inspire primary school learners, with hopes and dreams that they too can some days consider farming as a career of choice.
During his speech, MEC has emphasised the importance of farming and more significantly from an early age. He said, that will instil the mentality to deal with the thorny issue of food security. “What a better way of coming down to the grassroots and assist learners at this stage of their lives to know how to take control of providing food for themselves and their immediate families”, MEC exclaimed.
Learners were advised that, by choosing agriculture they will form part of the solution to address food security, not only in the country but across the globe.
