MEC Kekana joined veterinary teams to ensure that as many dogs and cats as possible were reached and vaccinated.
The Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (LDARD), led by MEC Nakedi Kekana, had successfully rolled out a door‑to‑door rabies vaccination drive in Sibasa, Thohoyandou. This follows a worrying trend in which three people have lost their lives to Rabies in the province over the past three months.
Moving from home to home, the MEC joined veterinary team to ensure that as many dogs and cats were reached and vaccinated. The community responded positively, allowing their pets to receive this life-saving protection.
Rabies is a deadly viral disease that affects the nervous system of both animals and humans. It is mainly spread through the bite or scratch of an infected animal, and once symptoms show, it is almost always fatal. Protecting pets through vaccination is the most effective way of breaking the cycle of infection and keeping communities safe.
