MEC Nakedi Kekana engages all stakeholders to curb the wave of vandalism on infrastructure aims to support job creation and grow local economy.

MEC Nakedi Kekana has expressed her frustration over vandalisation of Sepitsi Broiler Farm, located in Lebowakgomo on 10 October 2024. The vandalism, including the theft of essential equipment, undermines the Sepitsi Broiler farm's capacity to produce 180,000 broilers per cycle, crucial for job creation and economic growth.

The vandalisation struck shortly before the farm is commissioned to feed the Lebowakgomo Chicken Abattoir that is about to re-open its doors this December 2024.

The visit brought together key stakeholders, including the Lepelle-Nkumpi Economic Development Committee, the Limpopo Economic Development Agency, the Department of Transport and Community Safety, South African Police Service (SAPS), and beneficiaries of the farm.

This collaboration highlights the collective effort needed to combat the recent wave of vandalism that threatens local economic revitalisation efforts.

The timing of the vandalism is particularly concerning, as it occurred shortly after Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba and MEC Kekana announced initiatives aimed at revitalising the abattoir. These efforts hinge on the availability of broiler houses, like those at Sepitsi, which are crucial for feeding the abattoir and supporting local jobs.
