Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen has delivered the national Agriculture Budget Vote Speech in Cape Town—joined by MECs from across the country, including Ms Nakedi Kekana, MEC of Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The Minister’s speech was a critical moment for the sector—it set the tone for national priorities, funding allocations, and collaborative strategies that directly impact farmers, producers, and food systems across South Africa.
“We welcome the Minister’s commitment to address adverse audit findings with transparency, prioritise Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) control, establish a Biosecurity Council and Compact, build national readiness to manage future outbreaks, deepen support to smallholder and emerging producers, and tackle the food security crisis through coordinated responses and expanded food gardens”, said MEC Kekana.
Limpopo remains aligned and ahead in these areas—particularly in FMD control, agro-processing, and smallholder support. National collaboration is key to unlocking sustainable growth, and this budget speech is a moment to listen, align, and act.
