MEC Kekana urges young people that in Limpopo, the potential is in agriculture.
MEC responsible for Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nakedi Kekana dedicated her time to the event held by Insurance Sector education and Training Authority (INSETA) STEAM programme in Zebediela on 30 April 2025.
Key areas of focus were on strategic investment in skills that can transform the industries in the long run to benefit future generations.
In her address, MEC Kekana has repeatedly made emphasis to young people to invest their time and energy by making agriculture fashionable. She said in Limpopo, the potential is in agriculture.
“Young people, I say this with the deepest conviction: if you want a future with dignity, direction, and independence—go into agricultural production completely. Don’t wait for land to come to you. Learn the business, understand the soil, build your networks, and use the skills platforms like INSETA to sharpen your competitive edge.
“Limpopo has the soil, the climate, and the culture of farming excellence. But we need skilled hands and sharp minds. That is why we say, skills development is not an option—it is a necessity.
“Through partnerships with INSETA, with TVET colleges, with industry players and NGOs, we can ensure that the future farmer is a young, skilled, black woman—not just working the land but owning it.
“To the youth here today, I say: Let agriculture be the field where you grow your wealth, your confidence, and your communities. We as the Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development are here to support your journey—through training, mentorship, and real opportunities. We are ready to walk with you from classroom to farm, from skills to success”.
