Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba (left) and MEC Nakedi Kekana visit tractor display exhibition stall during an AgriXpo

Limpopo Province hosted an AgriXpo, with the Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba officially opening it at The Ranch Resort. MEC responsible for Agriculture and Rural Development Nakedi Kekana, accompanied by the Portfolio Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development have joined the Premier.  The agricultural show ran from 13 to 15 March 2025.

Speaking during the opening, Premier urged with commercial farmers and financial institutions to assist the struggling emerging farmers to grow. “Support our emerging farmers with financial aid, technical training and access to markets. Without this support, their potential remains untapped and the fight against unemployment remains an uphill battle”, appealed the Premier.

Premier further explained that AgriXpo should accelerate transformation in agriculture in alignment with National Development Plan and Limpopo’s strategic agricultural vision. She continued that this is to ensure more farmers, especially women and youths, enter and succeed in the industry; inclusivity by providing small-scale farmers with equal opportunities to access markets and finance, innovation and technology adoption by embracing mechanisation, precision farming, and agro processing. “Let it be the foundation upon which we build a self-reliant, globally competitive farming sector”, Premier noted.

The three-day must-attend platform brought together knowledge exchange, shared experience, and technological innovation as well as networking from government, industry experts, commercial and emerging farmers, all working together towards a common goal – of creating a sustainable, inclusive and thriving agricultural sector.

The agricultural hub comprised of interactive stalls including that of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development with farmers showcasing processed foods and products, a wide range of valuable information on livestock and crop production as well as farming equipment. The event featured conference speakers with subject knowledge who shared their speeches with students from agricultural schools grasping the essence of various trends and children’s activities taking centre stage.
