The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development participated in the engagement as part of its commitment to bringing agricultural support services closer to communities.

The Limpopo Provincial Government, led by Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba, hosted a District Development Model (DDM) Imbizo on Service Delivery Matters at Bakenberg Stadium in Mogalakwena Local Municipality, Waterberg District, on Wednesday, 21 October 2026. The engagement brought together government leaders, Members of the Executive Council (MECs), representatives of sector departments, traditional leaders from the Limpopo House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders, community members and other stakeholders to deliberate on service delivery challenges and explore practical interventions to address community needs.

The Imbizo provided a platform for direct engagement between government and communities, enabling residents to raise concerns, share experiences and contribute to discussions on issues affecting their daily lives. Mogalakwena Local Municipality and relevant MECs responded to matters raised, reaffirming the importance of accountability, public participation and responsive governance.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development participated in the engagement as part of its commitment to bringing agricultural support services closer to communities. Officials from the Agro-Ecological North Zone Extension and Advisory Services provided guidance to residents on matters relating to the One Household, One Garden initiative and challenges affecting their agricultural enterprises. They also shared information on the Department’s programmes and support services aimed at improving livelihoods, strengthening agricultural production and promoting economic opportunities. The Department’s Veterinary Services section was also present to provide information and guidance on animal health, including livestock-related concerns.

Addressing the community, Premier Phophi Ramathuba reaffirmed the government’s commitment to responding to the concerns raised, stating, “We have heard your concerns, we are going to help you.” She encouraged residents to utilise the services of agricultural extension officers and to follow up on their applications to obtain updates on progress and access the necessary support.

The Premier further urged young people to pursue studies and training in scarce and specialised skills that respond to the country’s economic needs, emphasising the importance of developing competencies that create employment opportunities, support entrepreneurship and contribute to economic growth.

She also emphasised the importance of collective responsibility and community cooperation, encouraging residents to work together towards addressing shared challenges and advancing local development.

The Imbizo reaffirmed the importance of the District Development Model as a mechanism for strengthening integrated planning and cooperation among national, provincial and local government, traditional leadership and communities. Through direct engagement, coordinated interventions and access to departmental services, the initiative sought to promote accountability, improve service delivery and advance sustainable livelihoods in Bakenberg and the broader Mogalakwena area.
