The Limpopo Premier, Dr. Phophi Ramathuba, recently, paid a courtesy visit to Serage Holdings, in Bloodriver and Moletji Lonsdale, in the Capricorn District. The Premier’s visit speaks to government’s broader commitment to supporting and elevating emerging farmers across the province.
Serage Holdings is owned by Wendy Moshakga, a young and determined female farmer steadily carving her name in the field of cabbage production. She supplies her produce to Goseame, Spar, Aboobakar Cash and Carry, and informal markets. Moshakga continues to build a reputation as one of the province’s rising producers, demonstrating how persistence, innovation, and resilience can pave the way for growth in the agricultural sector.
Besides producing cabbage as a primary passion, she is eager to share her experience and knowledge gathered through her cabbage training course that has seen 724 farmers and aspiring cabbage producers walk through her farm gates, with her cabbage farming guidebook selling over 1224 copies yet In addition, the exemplary young female farmer can produce, on average, 20 000 heads of cabbage per month on 10ha out of her 20ha land in Bloodriver.
The provincial leadership not only recognises her individual strides but also underscores the pivotal role of women and youth in driving transformation within the sector. This acknowledgement reflects a firm belief that agriculture is not only about food security, but also about creating opportunities, building communities, and empowering future leaders.
The provincial government has long positioned agriculture as the backbone of Limpopo’s economic development. Visits such as this reaffirm that commitment, that emerging farmers are not left behind but rather equipped with tools to participate meaningfully in the mainstream economy.

Wendy Moshakga is affectionately known as the mother of cabbage producer.
