A Peer Review Session led by the Acting Head of Department Ms. Mpho Mashamba and attended by delegates from both the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the National Department of Agriculture took place at Masana Lodge, Polokwane on 10 July 2025.

The holding of Quarterly Performance Review (QPR) sought to track the progress made on financial and non-financial performance, while addressing the challenges as early as the first quarter that could hinder progress. Key areas of focus were on expanded agro-processing industry for high value produce; increasing the participation of smallholder and emerging farmers; and improving access to markets for agricultural produce both locally and internationally.

The reports, which provides an overview of performance against predetermined objectives and targets set in Annual Performance Plans, were interrogated in line with the Programmes.

Key focus areas were on the following strategic issues:

  • Infrastructure Turnaround Strategy;
  • Financial Performance Report per Programme; and
  • Cumulative Performance Review to circumvent underperformance.

This was done in an effort to consolidate and come up with plan of action, not only to improve the internal control systems, but respond to the interest of the public/farmers the department is mandated to serve.

A Peer Review Session held in an effort to come up with action plan to improve internal control systems.
