Public Auction for livestock at Mara Research Station was well attended on 25 March 2025. Farmers, meat traders, abattoir, and feedlot owners were bidding for the re-sale of livestock at subsidized value.
This, according to Cedric Mojapelo, director for Animal Production, is part of the Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to do the resale of livestock for developmental purpose. "We actually sell and distribute stock to the farmers through the subsidized value. LDARD sell animals that are in excess and outside the strict selection of the genetics".
The public auction is further part of contribution to the red meat industry, value chain and government's effort to generate revenue.
