Over 300 cattle were inspected while over 90 were vaccinated and branded for FMD during the follow-up operation held at Shakadza village on 13 May 2022 in the Vhembe District.

The Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (LDARD) remains confident that the current outbreak of FMD in the province shall be eradicated.

This as over 300 cattle were inspected while over 90 were vaccinated and branded for FMD during the follow-up operation held at Shakadza village on 13 May 2022 in the Vhembe District.

Since the outbreak of the disease early this year, the Department engaged aggressive vaccination, surveillance and follow-up operations including animal movement restriction in the fight against FMD.

The Department believes these concerted efforts shall result in the eventual eradication of the disease as progress made thus far is highly commendable.

The MEC responsible for LDARD Ms Nandi Ndalane expressed confidence in the eradication of the disease owing to the operations engaged by the Department. “We are grateful for the tireless efforts displayed by our veterinary services who continue to spare no effort in the vaccination operations. We further appreciate the additional resources provided to us by the Provincial Treasury in our efforts to eradicate FMD in Limpopo,” said Ndalane.

Similar operations are carried out in affected areas in the province. Cattle owners are advised to continue respecting regulations restricting movement of animals in restricted areas. Those who are found violating these regulations will be prosecuted.
