Livestock in good condition and ready for auctioning

The Capricorn South Agro Ecological Zone LDARD Officials in collaboration with BKB hosted the second livestock mobile auction for the buyers and sellers in and around Magatle in Zebidiela.

The Mobile auction created a vibrant platform for farmers to market and sell their livestock at fair value, while buyers in return gained direct access to quality animals and farmers benefitted from competitive pricing and broader market exposure. With Veterinary Services, Extension and Advisory Practitioners, the Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality delegates, and traditional authorities present at the auction, all protocols were observed to ensure the well-organised auction offered a conducive environment for both emerging and commercial farmers, encouraging local economic activity and networking.

In a continued effort to improve market access and economic opportunities for rural farmers, mobile livestock auctions confirmed to become a game-changer across remote farming communities. These auctions eliminate the need for long distance travel, bringing the marketplace directly to the farmers doorstep. This not only reduces the cost of transport and animal stress, but also gives the farmers a better chance to participate in formal markets, regardless of their location.

One of the biggest advantages is access to a broader pool of buyers. With multiple participants – feedlot buyers, local butcheries, traders – gathering in one place, farmers cab benefit from competitive bidding, often securing better prices than they

This sequent mobile auction was encouraged by the first successful auction hosted by the Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and BKB. This initiative is seen as a great need for formal market participation by the rural farmers,
