Scammers with intent to defraud unsuspecting claimants ask upfront payment promising speedy resolution of their claims.

The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD) urges members of the community to be vigilant against criminals purporting to either being government officials who want swindle them money claiming to fast track their land claim.

The Restitution of Land Claims process in South Africa is a free government service. No money is ever payable to anyone including government officials or those working for the Commission on Restitution of Land Rights.

This applies to communities, families and individuals who submitted the claims before the 31 December 1998 cut-off date or claims lodged between 1 July 2014 and 27 July 2016.

The department is aware of the information about scammers with intent to defraud unsuspecting claimants asking upfront payment promising speedy resolution of their claims. Claims are processed to finality by the Commission without any outside influence.

Land Restitution is a human rights-based to correct past wrongs by settling land restitution claims under Restitution of Land Right Act.
