Official launch of Mathuba Farming Academy.

MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Nakedi Kekana, officially launched the Mathuba Farming Academy in Makhado, Vhembe District, marking a major milestone in agricultural development and skills empowerment in Limpopo.

The launch celebrated the remarkable transformation of the academy from a modest backyard initiative into a globally recognised centre of excellence in livestock farming. Supported through infrastructure development and scientific collaboration with the Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (LDARD), the academy now stands as a beacon of innovation and empowerment for emerging farmers.

Addressing guests during the launch, MEC Kekana praised the vision and determination of the academy’s founder, Mr Emmanuel Mudau, for creating a platform that is changing lives and restoring dignity through agriculture. She described the academy as a powerful vehicle for economic liberation, particularly for young people and women, who continue to face high levels of unemployment and inequality.

According to the MEC, the institution is equipping beneficiaries with advanced technical knowledge and practical expertise needed to succeed in the modern and competitive livestock industry. “The future of agriculture lies in innovation, technology and skills development. Institutions such as Mathuba Farming Academy are helping to shape a new generation of agricultural entrepreneurs,” said Kekana.

Following the launch ceremony, MEC Kekana visited Tshilwavhusiko Combined School, where she encouraged learners to pursue careers in agriculture. She challenged pupils to view the sector as a modern, high-tech industry with endless opportunities for growth, innovation and self-reliance. The MEC further emphasized that agriculture remains one of the most effective tools to fight poverty, create jobs and drive sustainable rural development across Limpopo.
