Unemployed Graduates in jovial mood soon after being honoured and recognised for their resilience, dedication, and commitment to learning.
Sixty-eight graduates were acknowledged and recognised during their ceremony organised by the Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (LDARD) in collaboration with University of North-West (UNW) at The Park Hotel and Conference centre, Mokopane in Mogalakwena Local Municipality, Waterberg District on the evening of 13 September 2024.
The move was after graduates were successfully completed the short course in Entrepreneurial skills - Agri-preneurship Incubation 2024 programme, which sought to empower them with entrepreneurial skills to drive innovation and job creation in the agricultural sector.
Upon receipt of their certificates, graduates were reminded that the ceremony marks the beginning of a new journey, one that holds the promise of bridging the gaps of unemployment and job scarcity. Speaking on behalf of LDARD MEC Nakedi Kekana, Mogalakwena Councillor (Cllr) Bryna Ngwenya said, “the business skills you have acquired are not just tools for personal advancement, but weapons in the battle against poverty and inequality. I urge you to consider business as a viable pathway to creating sustainable jobs, not just for yourselves, but for others in your communities”.
Cllr Ngwenya emphasised the importance of agriculture in contemporary South Africa, which she said cannot be overstated. “It is the heartbeat of our nation, an industry upon which millions depend for livelihoods, nourishment, and economic progress. In a world that is continuously evolving, the role of agriculture has expanded beyond traditional farming to encompass innovative agribusinesses, digital agriculture and sustainable practices that ensure food security for all”.
In her concluding remarks, she congratulated the graduates for their outstanding achievements, and said they should be proud for having shown resilience, dedication and commitment to learning.
“May you go forth as innovators, job creators, and champions of agricultural transformation in South Africa”.
