Acting Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (LDARD) MEC Dieketseng Mashego led team of the LDARD and Potato SA to the Potato SA Symposium Gala Dinner at The Ranch Hotel and Resort, outside Polokwane.

The event marks the culmination of a two-day engagement that brought together farmers, agribusiness leaders, and policymakers to deliberate on advancing transformation and sustainability in the potato industry.

The activities of the hosting of Symposium included the potatoes growers farm visits, exhibitions, and roped up with awarding of best potato farmer – where Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed.

The signing of MoU was to reaffirm shared commitments among partners to strengthening farmer support systems, enhancing research and innovation, and promoting inclusive participation of youth, women, persons with disabilities and emerging farmers across the potato value chain.

Through this collaboration, both institutions further reaffirm their desire to work together in developing a thriving and competitive potato industry that contributes meaningfully to food security, job creation, and economic development in Limpopo and beyond. The MoU further aligns with the province’s broader agricultural transformation agenda, ensuring that public and private sector efforts are harmonized to unlock the full potential of the potato industry as a driver of rural prosperity.

Acting MEC reminded guests in the Gala Dinner to play their role - whether in funding, mentorship, or access to markets - to ensure that agriculture in Limpopo becomes vibrant, profitable, and sustainable sector.
