The celebration of International Day of the African Child recognises the need to ensure access to qualilty education for all.

Increase access to quality and relevant education is all that an African Child needs.

This was the key to the central message delivered during the International Day of the African Child that took place at Kgashane Mamatlepa Primary School, Kgapane Township, Greater Letaba Municipality in Mopani District on 20 July 2024.

Limpopo Provincial Government joined in the celebration.

MEC responsible for Agriculture and Rural Development, Nakedi Kekana and MEC of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism, Tshitereke Matibe and MEC responsible for Social Development, Florence Radzilani were among the leadership of Limpopo Provincial Government who joined in the celebration.

The awareness sought to promote the continuing need for improvement of the education provided to African Children and to address the challenges that still hinder access to inclusive quality education for all.

In line with this year’s theme, ““Education for all Children in Africa: the Time is Now”, MEC Kekana reiterated the need to revitilise agricultural programmes in schools to promote food secuirty. She made a commitment to step up programmes towards the vision of taking full responsibility in providing agricultural inputs to agricultural schools so they can come up with fresh produce.

Learners were assured that support is available and all that is needed is for learners to take first steps in producing what they eat, which can tackle the high cost of living.

They day honoured those participated in the Soweto Uprising in 1976.
